A PEEK INSIDE MECCALAND 2019
BY MARIA THATTIL
This weekend, beauty lovers everywhere gravitated to magical #MECCALAND in an immersive experience of makeup, music, flashing lights and thrills. Nestled away in a converted industrial exhibition hall, the festival was held in Sydney, Australia and brought together 15,000 people, 40 brands, A-list beauty guests and celebrities over a mutual love and passion for beauty.
The inaugural event was held last year and I had the pleasure of attending the PR Day when it first came to life in Melbourne, and it was unlike anything I have ever seen in Australia. Think the Beauty Con of down under.
This year, MECCA planned to go bigger and better - and they didn’t disappoint. Teasing that they created the ‘Disneyland’ of beauty, brands came to life in spectacular installations - from ball pits, swings, & slides to a downright, huge Ferris wheel, it was a competition to out-extra one another and everyone won.
This year, I loved sharing in the VIP Preview with my MECCA family and joined other beauty influencers in a guided tour where we were set loose on the festival to soak up the landscape before enjoying cocktails in an upstairs loft whilst the first consumer group rolled in. My style for the night was a dark amalgamation of latex & power silhouettes, complimented by a beauty look that was an Indo/Western hybrid.
I returned on Day 2 to play tour guide with MECCA MAX and show festival goers around the Glow Show - riding the Ferris wheel, showcasing the Glow Closet with every Liquid Light Highlight shade you can imagine, and creating a custom shade by mixing the new limited edition shade ‘Rose Quartz’ with the pearlescent ‘Opal’.
For this, I opted for a statement snake print dress and a Khloe Kardashian inspired half up-half down, voluminous mane.
Glowing, grateful and mind-blown, MECCALAND is the ultimate if you love beauty. If you didn’t make it this year, don’t worry, there’s always 2020. By then, the MECCA team will have probably worked out how to give guided tours on glittery dragons. Bigger and better always, till then, enjoy my recap below x
