Maria Thattil (born February 4th, 1993) is Miss Universe Australia and a South-Asian Australian media personality, writer, speaker, founder of the Mind With Me series, model and digital creator. As the 3rd woman of colour to represent Australia after 69 years of the Miss Universe competition and standing at 5”3 tall, she placed in the Top 10 globally, breaking several barriers for women and people of colour. Her multi-hyphen career is a curation of projects that champion critical social justice issues including anti-racism, diversity, inclusion, representation, youth empowerment, mental health and gender equality advocacy.

Since winning the Miss Universe Australia title in October 2020, Thattil’s growth has continued to escalate, with her personality and ability to speak eloquently on challenging but relevant social and cultural matters leading to her being in demand in Australian media. She has featured several times on Channel 7’s The Morning Show,ABC's News Breakfast, Channel 9's The Today Show, Channel Ten’s Studio 10 and Have You Been Paying Attention, served as both a centre spread and a guest columnist for Stellar Magazine, a guest speaker for global conglomerates like Verizon Media, Procter and Gamble and L’Oréal and partaken in a variety of guest interviews with podcasts, commercial radio and written outlets. She is fast gaining a respected reputation as an insightful and skilled opinion writer authoring powerful pieces on racism, leadership, sexism and empowerment for a variety of reputable outlets including SBS, Mama Mia, Yahoo!, Stellar Magazine, Women’s Agenda and Nine Honey.

Thattil leverages her degrees in Psychology and Management in her creative endeavours, dedicating her efforts as a creator and activist to collaborate with global brands on panels, campaigns and content geared toward representation and equality. She has since gone on to headline national campaigns as a face and ambassador for Clinique, L’Oreal, Piper Heidsieck, Adore Beauty, Olay, Ulta3, Seamless1, Eimele Australia, Clinique and more. I

n 2020, Thattil founded and created Mind With Me - a social media empowerment series where she built a global community of listeners who would join her in discussions on a critical myriad of social issues. The series is a curation of conversations committed to teaching the importance of representation and inclusion, appreciating differences and empowering people to regain control of their wellbeing, master their mind and live conscious, confident and inspired lives. The Show teaches the importance of embracing the fact that we are united in the universal experience of being human.

A fierce activist for social causes, Thattil serves as a member of the United Nations Association of Australia and supports Mission Australia and SisterWorks in a skilled ambassador capacity. She is currently completing an internationally accredited neurocoaching qualification and in May 2021, she will represent Australia in the 69th edition of the global Miss Universe competition. Currently residing in Melbourne, Australia, Thattil plans on developing her career in Australian entertainment with an interesting in presenting, hosting and acting.
